There are few things as annoying as a cheaply made belt. You know the ones, you find them at stores for 20, 30 dollars and they look great. They say things like 100% genuine leather, which we’d admit is much better than saying 100% particle board leather, but still. They tend to start showing wear after a couple of months and by the end of a year, it looks like you had the thing tied to the back of your car the whole time. The hardware has that gold or chrome paint on it that tends to chip showing of the composite metal underneath and…well, we’ll stop there. Needless to say, we did not want to make those kinds of belts.
Our belt is made with a solid brass double prong buckle and held together with strong, solid brass rivets. The 10-12oz vegetable tanned bridal leather is just the right thickness for a sturdy belt and ensures stretching over time is very minimal.
Another feature not often mentioned by others but one we take seriously is edging. When you first cut vegetable tanned leather the edges are very rough. Many makers round off the edges and call it a day. We take it a step, actually four steps, further. After rounding off the edges by hand with a beveler, we lightly sand and cover with some saddle soap to soften. Then it’s ran through a burnisher to smoothen out the leather fibers. Once completed the leather edge is dyed and coated with our custom blend of oils and beeswax and ran through the burnisher again. When completed, our edges are nice and smooth to the touch. It makes our belts look great, and also protects the leather over time from the elements.
When ordering, let us know in the comment section what size you are needing. Do not use your current pants or jeans size, instead measure your current belt from where the buckle loops around the leather to the hole you currently use.
