We here at Rugged Minimalist are big fans of the Bullet Journal system for day planning, keeping up with to-do’s, lists, and general note taking so we designed a notebook cover that fits in perfectly with this method. Whether you are using it to plan the upcoming week, keep up with meal planning, writing, drawing, or all the above our handmade and hand stitched cover make it easy to carry everything you want with you. This cover is able to hold a ruler, multiple pens/pencils, smaller notebooks, and more. For any loose sheets or papers you need to keep with you, there is both a place to slide these in on the left and also a pocket behind the journal itself. Our unique pen/pencil holder in the middle prevents the need for a loop, and keeps the writing instrument of your choice secured and ready.

 Everything we make uses materials designed to last the long haul. With that in mind we use solid brass hardware and strong vegetable tanned bridle leather. The elastic bands used on many notebooks to keep it closed is great for the notebook itself, because it needs only to last the lifetime of the product, but it’s not something in our opinion you want used for the cover. When designing and researching ours, we found many others using bands of elastic to keep their covers closed and secured. It works, but we wanted a better, longer lasting way so we designed ours with solid brass snaps insuring that your 20th journal is as secured as your first.

Another feature not often mentioned by others but one we take seriously is edging. When you first cut vegetable tanned leather the edges are very rough. Many makers round off the edges and call it a day. We take it a step, actually four steps, further. After rounding off the edges by hand with a beveler, we lightly sand and cover with some saddle soap to soften. Then it’s ran through a burnisher to smoothen out the leather fibers. Once completed the leather edge is dyed and coated with our custom blend of oils and beeswax and ran through the burnisher again. When completed, our edges are nice and smooth to the touch. It makes our products look great, and also protects the leather over time from the elements.

Though designed with the Leuchtturm1917 in mind, this cover will also fit any other standard A5 size notebook.
