Our 1144 Messenger Bag is named for the unique fastener used. Originally, the 1144 Collar Fastener was used to secure horses and other animals to carts and the like. It was designed to unfasten quickly in the event the animal was spooked and needed to be released instantly before hurting itself or what it was carrying. We chose this piece of hardware for our messenger bag both for it’s security when closed, and for the speed and ease in which it opens allowing you quick access to your items. Full disclosure, the fact that it looks really cool may also have played a part in our decision!

Able to carry up to a 13” laptop, this minimalist inspired messenger bag is handmade in our shop using only the best full grain vegetable tanned bridal leather.  On the inside of the bag, there are two loops for pens/pencils, a sleeve to secure your laptop, and two sleeves to hold a small wallet or notepad. The shoulder strap can be looped through the large d-ring on back and attached to the smaller d-rings on back to carry as a backpack.

Another feature not often mentioned by others but one we take seriously is edging. When you first cut vegetable tanned leather the edges are very rough. Many makers round off the edges and call it a day. We take it a step, actually four steps, further. After rounding off the edges by hand with a beveler, we lightly sand and cover with some saddle soap to soften. Then it’s ran through a burnisher to smoothen out the leather fibers. Once completed the leather edge is dyed and coated with our custom blend of oils and beeswax and ran through the burnisher again. When completed, our edges are nice and smooth to the touch. It makes our products look great, and also protects the leather over time from the elements.
